A Successful and Produced Playwright

I am incredibly grateful. Five of my plays have been world premieres. I am one working playwright among many. To put things in perspective: There are about fifteen to twenty-five thousand working playwrights in the United States. On the average, I — and most of those other playwrights — will create one new play a year. Together, we will likely introduce 20,000 new plays into a nation only capable of producing 2,000 new plays per year. What this means is ninety percent of all new work will NEVER be produced. Since only one out of ten plays will ever make it to the stage, any playwright can reasonably expect to receive one world premiere per decade. As previously stated, I am incredibly grateful. And this fuels my passion to write each new play better than my last so it will hopefully become my next one-in-ten. ofworthy of the ten. What an honor and privilege it is.
